The Life And Times Of A Guy Known As Garp

    Sunday, November 02, 2003

With the new website quickly approaching completion, I am hereby closing the doors to The World According To Garp. Its new home, within the next week, will be The Hollow, Inc. for those who are interested in continuing to hear what I have to say. You'd be more than welcome. This move just allows me to focus more on the Webcomic, as well as continuing to do all the typing that I've come to enjoy. It's really the best of both worlds for me, and hopefully for you as well. So, after a little downtime, TWATG will continue. Thanks for all the fun!
Remember to love life to its fullest!

Those thousands of you that played Tetris on the original Gameboy will appreciate the new music on the front page. Check it out for a nice little reminder of old times.

    Delayed Closure

Due to problems in getting the new web server up and running, we are going to delay the closure of The World According to Garp until furture notice.

    Such horrible news, eh?

Not a long going on the world lately. Not much to really discuss. I'm still getting over the shock of Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of California. That's taking some recovery time.

In other news, the N-Gage, which I reviewed earlier, has already received a price cut. Only one month into its run, it has lost $100 of its price, bringing it down to $199.99 instead of the original $300 or so bucks. This is never a good sign. As I stated before, I respect the N-Gage for what it tried to bring to the table. The bad design flaws, however, seem to be taking their toll. We'll see what happens, and I'll keep you updated. In Preparation For The Move

To get ready for the move to my new blogging location at The Hollow, Inc, I will be closing this board in two days. Just to let everyone know.
    Birthday Thoughts

So my birthday is coming up. Yay. I used to really love those things, but these days they are really quite depressing. I'm coming up on 30 and I'm not anywhere near where I thought I would be. I love my job, but it doesn't pay any money. I'm not living on my own, and I'm living on medication.

Not exactly what I dreamed of for myself.

That's okay, though. I'm learning to cope. I'm where I need to be. Even if it isn't necessarily what I wanted for myself, I'm where I need to be. I'm safe, I'm healthier than I've been at any point in my life thanks to the medicines, and I have an income.

Sometimes we have to learn how to be happy with what we have. I'm confronting that fact right now. Not the bright, shining birthday that I looked forward to as a child, but a birthday nonetheless. I survived to reach this point... something that medically really shouldn't be possible. And it looks like I'll survive for my birthday after this one. I've never been able to say that before. That's a good thing, I suppose.

Check it out...Search for TS Garp and I am number one on the list! Woohoo! I feel so fulfilled now.

My first animated GIF. I'm so proud. You can see it at the top of the screen where the old banner used to be. W00t. Took all of three minutes to do. I was surprised by how easy it was. I didn't want or need anything fancy, which helped a lot. I just want to set us apart from the rest, and if I have to learn new skills to do so, then I shall learn those skills. I'm thinking of signing up for an online course on Photoshop as well, but nothing is definite on that yet. I have to get some cash flow coming in first before I do anything like that.

So let me know what you think of the new banner...It's a bit small, but it will be appearing at Mall Monkeys pretty soon, which is the whole reason behind the size of it. I'll come up with something new...and larger...for the site soon enough. For now, enjoy. :) I'm going to go pat myself on the back for a while.

    Becoming Official

We're getting ready to sign on for our first banner ad. I'll let everyone know the location of the ads once we get it going. We're really psyched, though, and feel that we'll be bringing in a whole new batch of readers. It's not a solution in and of itself, but it is a pretty good start. :)

To those that keep up with it, I would like to say that you'll be seeing a whole new style in about two strips. The characters are the same, but the scanning technique changes that allows for a much cleaner, bolder look overall. I really think it will help add a whole new dynamic to Soupy's writing.

The Troll Saga is winding down now, and I personally can not wait to see what is next from the twisted mind of Soupy. I know I have to create our first female character, and have begun work on it, but beyond that I know about as much as the next fan.

One thing I have realized is that it is a very good thing when I can look at the scripts when Soupy gives them to me and I enjoy them as any other fan would. I don't get to see them put together, with art etc., but I do get to look forward to that next installment. I consider myself blessed to be a fan of my own work. I look forward to working on that next script, because I get to be the first to see what is happening next. :) To me, that's the best thing in the world. I really have a wonderful job. Now, I just need to get paid for it. Heh.

So it's time for another recommendation from yours truly. This time, I'm going to do a repeat of a website that I have mentioned before. Radio Paradise. This is a totally free internet based radio station that survives off of listener donations. I can respect that with my current history with webcomics. They are eclectic, to say the least. You can go from Tears for Fears, to Grateful Dead, to Bob Dylan, to Live. You don't know what's coming up, but you can rest assured that if you liked the first song, you'll probably like the next one. They've even been known to play U2 from time to time, which definitely gets my Seal of Approval. So check it out...it's free and easy, and won't take much of your time. And if you don't like it, just delete it from your favorites. I'm recommending this bad boy, though. Check it out!
